Kids Classes in Chelsea, NYC: Play-Based Classes for Babies, Toddlers & Preschoolers

Finding the right kids class in NYC can feel like a lot of work. You want something fun, but you also want your child to get something meaningful out of it. A place where they can move, explore, make friends, build new skills, and—most importantly—actually enjoy being there.

At Chelsea Forest Play, our children’s classes bring all of that together through play.

Located in Chelsea, Manhattan, our indoor forest playground offers a growing selection of kids classes for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers, with classes focused on movement, music, language, sensory exploration, creativity, and social development.

What makes our classes different? Our programming is created and led by pediatric therapists, educators, and experienced children's instructors who understand how young children learn best: through play.

Play Is How Young Children Learn

For young children, learning doesn't always look like sitting at a desk or completing a worksheet. It can look like climbing, singing, pretending, moving, listening to a story, making a mess, or figuring out how to communicate with a new friend.

That's why play is at the center of everything we do at Chelsea Forest Play.

Our classes are designed to give children opportunities to practice developmental skills in a way that feels natural and joyful. Depending on the class, children might work on:

  • Language and communication

  • Gross and fine motor development

  • Sensory exploration

  • Coordination and body awareness

  • Social interaction

  • Emotional regulation

  • Creativity and imagination

  • Confidence and independence

  • Early learning skills

Our goal isn't to make play feel like therapy or school. It's to create an environment where learning happens naturally because children are engaged, curious, and having fun.

Kids Classes in Chelsea for Every Stage

Whether you're looking for a baby class in NYC, a toddler class in Chelsea, or a preschool activity for your 3- to 5-year-old, our schedule includes options for different ages and interests.

Bonjour Babies: French for Babies

Every Tuesday at 12:30pm

Ages 6 months–1.5 years

Introduce your little one to the sounds and rhythms of French with Bonjour Babies, a French class for babies and young toddlers at Chelsea Forest Play.

Created in partnership with Tribeca Language, the class is led by a native French-speaking instructor and gives little ones an early introduction to French through songs, play, movement, and connection.

It's a wonderful option for families looking for French classes for babies in NYC or a playful first language-learning experience.

Wiggle Workshop

Every Thursday at 10:30am

Ages 1–3

Wiggle Workshop is all about movement, exploration, and motor development.

Created in partnership with Wonder Kids Therapy, this small-group class is led by a pediatric occupational therapist and combines playful activities with OT-informed strategies. Children are encouraged to explore at their own pace while building coordination, body awareness, and foundational motor skills.

The class is intentionally flexible and child-led, making it a great fit for little ones who learn best when they're moving and exploring.

After the instructor-led portion, families can continue the fun with Open Play.

Sprout & Stretch

Every Tuesday at 3:30pm

Ages 3–4

Sprout & Stretch combines movement, stories, and playful activities to help young children build regulation, coordination, and connection.

For preschoolers, movement can be an important part of learning how to understand their bodies, participate in a group, follow a story, and transition between activities. This class gives children the opportunity to practice those skills in a fun and supportive environment.

Puppetsburg Music Class

Every Monday and Friday at 9:30am

Ages 6 months–5 years

Our Puppetsburg Music Class brings music, puppets, storytelling, and plenty of imagination into the Forest.

Each week features a new interactive story, giving children the chance to sing, move, listen, participate, and explore alongside their caregivers.

It's a fun choice for families looking for music classes for toddlers in NYC, especially for little ones who love a good puppet show.

Language in Bloom

Every Wednesday at 10:30am

Ages 1–2 years

Language in Bloom is a hands-on class where children explore the world through play and language.

Young toddlers are naturally developing communication skills every day, and this class gives them opportunities to hear language, interact with caregivers, explore sensory materials, and communicate through play.

It's a gentle, playful introduction to early language learning without taking the fun out of being a toddler.

Play, Talk, Grow

Every Tuesday at 10:30am

Ages 1.5–3 years

Play, Talk, Grow weaves language-building strategies into joyful, child-led play.

Designed for toddlers and their caregivers, the class focuses on creating opportunities for communication during activities that already feel natural to young children.

Rather than asking toddlers to sit still and "learn language," we meet them where they are—with toys, movement, pretend play, and plenty of opportunities to talk, listen, gesture, and connect.

Imagination Station

Once a month

Ages 1–3 years

Step into a new world with Imagination Station.

Each session transforms our Meadow classroom into an immersive pretend-play experience inspired by a different theme. Children can listen to a story, participate in imaginative activities, explore the themed environment, and then continue their adventure with Open Play.

It's designed to encourage creativity, pretend play, early life skills, communication, and confidence while giving little ones plenty of room to use their imaginations.

Why Choose a Play-Based Kids Class?

There are plenty of children's classes in NYC. So why choose a play-based class?

Because for young children, play isn't separate from learning. Play is learning.

When a toddler climbs, they're developing strength and coordination. When they pretend to make dinner, they're practicing language and social skills. When a child waits for a turn during a group activity, they're learning about communication and social interaction. When they explore a sensory activity, they're discovering how their body responds to different experiences.

At Chelsea Forest Play, our classes are designed around these everyday moments of learning.

Our founder, Grace Hutcher, is both a teacher and speech-language therapist, and that combination is at the heart of Chelsea Forest Play's approach. The space was created to bring together the joy of childhood with thoughtful, developmentally informed programming.

Pediatric Therapists + Educators Who Understand Kids

One of the things that makes Chelsea Forest Play special is our connection to the pediatric therapy community.

Our space is home to affiliated pediatric therapists who provide speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy in a play-based environment. Our classes build on that same philosophy: children learn best when they feel comfortable, engaged, and free to explore.

Our instructors bring expertise in areas including language development, sensory processing, motor development, communication, movement, and early childhood education.

That doesn't mean your child's class feels clinical.

Quite the opposite.

It feels like play.

The expertise is simply behind the scenes, helping us create activities that are fun while also supporting the ways young children are developing.
